She contacted me to make a new design in the center of Amsterdam.

Her wishes were to open up the space by removing her shed, to make it peaceful, but wild and to create a lawn area to play.

The floor of the shed had beautiful pavement so I suggested to use it to make flowerbed borders.

The existing tiles were good looking, as well as in a good state so we agreed to re-use them.

I incorporated them with different kinds of sedum.

Some of the herbs and plants I used: Oregano, Cotton lavender, Korean mint, Rosemary, Wandflower, Raspberry, Blackberry, Star jasmine, Sea thrift, Thyme, Chaste tree, Hardy geranium, Coneflower, Mexican orangeblossom, Bluebeard...

The wish for this assignment was to arrange the garden with some planting areas and to create a wadi.

I included ground cover, climber and blooming plants, but also medicinal, aromatic and edible plants and flowers.

On one size of the garden was a wooden shelf. I arranged and placed wooden boxes to welcome more plants for a colorful border. Additionally, I attached a support system with a wire to guide the climbing plants.

I connected the rain water drainage to the wadi and had one last final touch; to incorporate some more plants but not too many! Kids need space to entertain themselves in there!

Never heard of Wadi?

Water Afvoer Drainage en Infiltratie is the Dutch abbreviation. It is a ditch filled with sand and gravel. It can retain and infiltrate water. Great source of water for the plants especially in the dry season but also an amazing playground.

This couple was looking to renew their city garden. They already had a clear vision in mind for most elements, like incorporating gravel, a gravel pathway to the compost and renewing the vegetable garden.

Since they enjoy gardening I created a base for the garden in which they could personally incorporate the plants that they want afterwards. I re-used old pavement to create a new path, terraces and borders in a mosaic and curved style.

Some of the plants: Ferns, Lavender, Brazilian vervain, Thyme, Lady’s mantle, Butterfly bush, Smartweeds, Sedges, Red currant, Yellow archangel, Coral bells…

"Base design of a classic garden with curved paths and mosaic style terrace.

Since the clients enjoy gardening, the plants will be added later by themselves. Renewal of the vegetable garden and addition of another plants area will follow."

"Green roof with sedum and grasses."
